SYLK AW24 Campaign

One of our favourite to date... SYLK STORE AW24 Campaign. Shot at at Porth Wen Brickworks, Isle of Anglesey, a creative production by The Break Creative Agency.

From the brand, to the location, everything about this shoot was sublime. Although we had some extreme weather changes, let’s be honest, it made it even more worth while and elevated every shot. (ps. you need to check out our TikTok for some behind the scenes of the fun and laughs that were had!)

SYLK is a curated unisex premium vintage & designer store focusing on minimal & timeless design. Their focus is to curate preloved clothing made from natural fibres and to present this in a contemporary feel. Each piece is hand sourced by the founders, Dexter & Sophy. Founded in 2016, SYLK started as what is still the core of their brand; a love for vintage clothes. From working two jobs and selling out of their tiny London bedrooms, they decided to relocate back to their hometown of Manchester where they now run their whole business in an old mill located in Ardwick. You can shop their collection via website, in person by booking in an appointment to visit SYLK studio or attending one of their monthly studio open days.

When we started the initial conversationswith SYLK about what they wanted to achieve from their campaign, we knew straight away that our visions aligned, which made the whole creative process very easy and seamless. We started moodboarding potential ideas of how we could showcase the products that they wanted to shoot and what best reflects the pieces, the season and maintaining their brand image. We decided on a beach shoot, as many of the tones and styling nuances made for a gorgeous contrast between the rocky backdrop and the elegant and timeless collection.

Dexter and Sophy, founders and brand owners of Sylk, said, “It all started when we lent a few pieces to The Break for a shoot and immediately recognised our shared aesthetic. We’d been following their work ever since, admiring their creative flair in every project. So, when it came time to create our first campaign, partnering with The Break was an easy choice.

After years of refining our brand and style, we were ready to create powerful imagery that truly captured SYLK's identity. Our vision was to highlight classic, timeless pieces that would grow with us, though we weren’t yet certain how to bring this to life. That’s where The Break came in. Their collaboration made the entire process seamless from start to finish, delivering results that went beyond our expectations.

Not only are we incredibly happy with the imagery created but the whole day was such a great experience and we wouldn't turn to anyone else for any future creative projects.”

Let’s talk you through a summary of the day, it was a sketchy start as the weather forecast for the day was essentially a storm and only until we arrived on the Island, we weren’t sure how the day was going to pan out. The location is off the beaten track, so trying to assemble the convoy of cars onto a spot that made for good access down to the beach was a whole job in itself. Once we got settled, hair and make up artist Isabella started our model Chengxin’s hair and make up; we opted for a hair up to start as we had high necks and roll necks so wanted to ensure the focus was on her face and clothing. Enhancing her natural face with touches of bronze to accentuate her cheekbones.

We then had the treacherous journey of carrying everything down to the beach as multiple trips were not ideal, it was a fair way up and down...

Once down, we got going and allocated various locations to suit each look, carefully considering what would work best as a contrast. The day wasn’t without its downpours, looking at the final images, you’d never know that we had multiple flash floods throughout the day, but that’s all part of the process isn’t it.
