Our Top 5 Independent Jewellery Brands.

The Break has curated this list of independent jewellery brands you need to know about.

1/5 MOSQUITO

mosquitostudio.es @mmosquito

Mosquito, a fine jewellery brand, designed for the everyday, is the first in our round up of independent jewellery brands and is made to be worn in and outside of the water, due to their sterling silver properties - a trait with jewellery that is hard to come by. The brand prides themselves on their craftsmanship and each item takes 4 hours being handmade, before it then gets passed onto a customer, a touch that shows just how much care and consideration goes into their work. This Spanish based brand is committed to sustainability, and their made to order pieces are also shipped in fully recyclable, plastic-free packaging and are presented in a paper box, certified with the FSC®, an added bonus when choosing our jewellery, but like we needed another reason when the pieces as as stunning as this.

They also do an edit on their website called Salty Stories, similar to The Bureau where they chat to likeminded creators and artists about what means most to them and how the synergy between Mosquito and its community has come to reflect in their work and interests. 2/5 NOOTKA

https://nootka-jewelry.com/ @nootkaofficial

I came across Nootka via its founder on Instagram by having always followed brand owner, Lisa Olsson for her impeccable style and eye for design. Much like this, Nootka has followed suit. Her and partner Oskar dreamt up the idea of the jewellery brand having met in a café in Stockholm, fusing both of their backgrounds and skills of design, e-commerce and finance, they created Nootka. The brand holds sustainability close to the forefront of their core values, and all jewellery is made with recycled, 925 silver. Not only was important for them to ensure their products were environmentally conscious but trying to make a stamp on the jewellery industry in general by doing their bit. Everything is handmade in Stockholm and have recently introduced Nootka Care, an initiative for customers to send in their Nootka jewellery for gold plating or repolishing of silver by our goldsmiths, maintaining the lifespan and quality of your treasured pieces.

From earrings, to necklaces, Nootka covers all categories and the price point is commendable. It’s hard to pick our favourites but if we had to, it would be the Mini Sphere bracelet (also comes in a matching necklace if you’re looking for a set) or the Cashew Earrings (pictured below) If Nootka isn’t on your radar, it should be now.

3/5 Le Sundial

https://lesundial @lesundial

What drew me in to Le Sundial, was their Tassel Belt, I’ve spotted them on the coolest of people on Instagram, from Brittany Bathgate to Andrea Ricci, styled around their blazers and coats and its currently at the top of my Christmas Wish List. What we normally would associate with a curtain tie, we’re now tying round our waists, and we’re totally here for it. We’re also going crazy for their necklaces, the Trinity Onyx Tassel Necklace and Venice Opera Necklace, have us swooooning for longer necklaces this season. Founded by Silvia Dusci and is handmade and based in Italy, this brand is one we’ve tried to gatekeep for a while but its just too good not to share. Both Silvia’s and the Le Sundial Instagram are just so easy on the eye, sharing inspiration to co-exist with the Le Sundial lifestyle and woman.

See us styling our cream Tassel Belt over a black suit and a kitten heel on New Years Eve… that’s if Santa is good to us this Christmas.

4/5 SOPHIE BUHAI

https://www.sophiebuhai.com/ @sophiebuhai

Based out of the Hollywood Hills, Sophie Buhai is a modernist jewellery brand that blends minimalism and surrealism. Designed for everyday wear, the brand has become synonymous for its use of signature materials of pearls and onyx as well as semi precious materials such as pearls and onyx, all fabricated in sterling silver and destined to last. What we’re coveting? Hard one, but the Vienna Collar in Carnelian.

In 2021, Sophie Buhai expanded its product line into both heirloom and functional objects from lighters to silver hip flasks (Yes, thats right. The chicest hip flask you’ll ever see) Quite simply, her products are stunning and we want it all. Their instagram is a source of inspiration as well as a product page, see behind the scenes of their head office and Sophie shares a wonderful insight into herself behind the scenes. The personal element that Sophie Buhai threads through her impeccable brand is exactly how, if we had our own - we’d do it just like that.

Shop the collection here sophiebuhai.com and also check out their incredibly aesthetic and inspirational instagram @sophiebuhai

5/5 Casa Ayllón

https://ayllon.co/ @casa.allyon

A beautifully sentimental brand, Ayllón is named after the brand owners grandmother, honouring the inspiration that founded the brand and and its heritage and frankly, we can’t get enough of them. All pieces are made with artisanal handblown glass, using the ancient lampwork technique, something which no doubt sets the brand apart from so many others trying to recreate such distinguished pieces.

If you’re looking for a keepsake, this brand is perfect. We’re currently coveting their leather pouches. We’ll take on in every colour and will use them from Summer through Winter, thank you very much. Their pieces are divine, and the fact they cover all occasions and seasons, something that’s hard to find these days with a jewellery brand, often pigeon-holing them to one design and craft, Ayllón’s pieces can be worn and styled all year round. Can we also take a minute to appreciate their barrette’s, I had to include the image below (below, left) because why would you not put all three in your hair, when they look like this.

Good To Know: They’re also recently introduced a shoe line and have designed the most precious Mary Jane’s, paying homage to a traditional 19th century Italian shoe, we’re loving the Bottle colourway - https://ayllon.co/collections/mary-janes.
